The history of Skodsborg as a health centre
The Skodsborg Bathing Sanatorium was founded by the Adventist community when Dr. Carl Ottosen (1864 – 1943) – who had studied curative methods with the American doctor and expert in physiotherapy, Dr. John H. Kellogg – bought a couple of old barns on the coast, close to the beach, in 1897. In 1898 he opened one of Denmark’s first and very advanced health resorts. Skodsborg Bathing Sanatorium quickly became very popular and recognised for its expertise in the physiotherapeutic area and for its preventative efforts involving curative stay-overs and healthy living.
Following a financial decline and bankruptcy in 1992, and after an energetic rescue effort, Skodsborg has been “revived” under the name of Skodsborg Health Centre.
Carl Ottosen’s life’s work and ideas live on in Skodsborg Health Centre and, now owned by the Augustinus Foundation, Skodsborg has since 1992 been renovated and offers facilities which satisfy the demands of our time for prevention, joie de vivre and well-being.
